Scooters - Hockey Skills

"Sizzling Scooters"

Scooters is the first step in learning to play hockey.  Skating skills from your Learn to Skate class will be built upon and applied to hockey situations.  In Scooters, players will begin working with sticks and pucks.  Players will be coached in more advanced skating techniques, puck handling drills, passing and shooting as well as begin scrimmaging.

Mandatory Equipment

  • Helmet
  • Gloves
  • Elbow pads
  • Shoulder pads
  • Breezers (pants)
  • Cup
  • Shin guards
  • Hockey skates
  • Stick -- a non-curved blade is best as it allows beginning players to naturally find their handed preference.

(Neck guards and mouth guards are not required at this level, but will be as your player progresses.  Good practice suggests using these items now so your player is accoustomed to how they feel.)

The bulleted items above are all mandatory in Scooters as the players will begin working with pucks and scrimmaging. Rental equipment is available at no cost and can be obtained by seeing one of the Learn to Skate Coaches or Managers. A short form needs to filled out.  Free rental equipment does NOT include skates, stick, or a cup!
